Memory images serve to identify, interpret, and supplement perception. No neat borderline separates a purely perceptional image - if such there is- from one completed by memory…-Rudolf Arnheim
These paintings draw inspiration from the high deserts of the southwest, mostly in Texas and New Mexico. These “outer” landscapes are modified by “inner ones”. The inner concerns are a dialogue with dreams, memories, thought fragments and streams of consciousness. By the contextual placement or overlay of inner and outer, I hope to convey my own thoughts about the nature of imagination: to achieve a sense of the imagination’s movement (tempo) against a relatively unchanging environment (duration). I’m interested in calling attention to the act of painting as well as to how one understands visual conventions by combining self-referential marks and forms with more traditional rendering. I hope that these juxtapositions enliven the surface and create an ambiguous space that causes the viewer to question his/her notions about perceptional space. I would like to provide the viewer choices that lie between dualities like cultural and natural, perspectival and encompassed, near and far, representational and abstract, mythic time and geologic time, movement and stillness, order and chaos. I want the landscapes to be understood as a “verb” rather than a “noun”. View more about Jim and his art online Thank you Contributors and Paid SubscribersGinger L

Prescribed Pile Burn in Aztec Springs area completedNMFireinfo.com
Ignitions on the Aztec Springs Pile Burn near Santa Fe, NM are complete. The Forest Stewards Guild, The Nature Conservancy, and partners completed 107 out of 117 acres on the project. A heavy wet snow in the area allowed them to complete the burn safely. The next 3 days of mild storms with colder temps, 40-50% chances of precipitation everyday, and good overnight humidity recoveries provide confidence that the piles will burn down with no movement. The burn team will be in the area patrolling the units intensively in the next few days and then as needed based on the conditions. By Shel Neymark
The state library will disburse about $15,000 from endowment earnings to each eligible library this fall. After 5 years of advocacy, it feels like we will finally see some results from our work. Senator Ortiz y Pino has introduced legislation asking for an additional $30 million for the endowment. The bill number is SB 170. Over the last week I've learned the reason the LFC didn't put money for the endowment in their proposed budget is the perception that it hasn't produced results. That each library will receive $15,000 this year proves them wrong. We have to let them know that it is working. Let them know what our libraries might do with the $15,000. It will help with advocacy to hear from you. Also what your library could do with $45,000 if full funding was received Thank you all for your efforts. If you are willing to send more emails supporting Senator Ortiz y Pino's bill and touting the success represented by the soon to be disbursed funds, the finance committee member's emails are copied again below. You may copy the whole list and paste it into one email. There is also another copy attached that will give the emails of your individual legislators. george.munoz@nmlegis.gov nancy.rodriguez@nmlegis.gov bill@williamsharer.com bill.burt@nmlegis.gov pete.campos@nmlegis.gov crystal.diamond@nmlegis.gov roberto.gonzales@nmlegis.gov siah.hemphill@nmlegis.gov michael.padilla@nmlegis.gov jeff.steinborn@nmlegis.gov pat.woods@nmlegis.gov nathan.small@nmlegis.gov meredith.dixon@nmlegis.gov anthony.allison@nmlegis.gov gail@gailfornewmexico.com brian.baca@nmlegis.gov c.brown.nm55@gmail.com jack.chatfield@nmlegis.gov art.delacruz@nmlegis.gov hgarciad69@gmail.com joy4NewMexico@gmail.com pamelya.herndon@nmlegis.gov Tara@TarajaramilloforNM.com tara.lujan@nmlegis.gov roddmontoya@gmail.com rpettigrew@randallpettigrew.com Joseph.Sanchez@nmlegis.gov debbie.sarinana@nmlegis.gov WHO TO CONTACT AND SEND POSTCARDS FOR RURAL LIBRARY ADVOCACY Have Feral Cats?

This week, Carson recommends Killers of the Flower Moon, by David Grann: "What a gripping book! I don't read a ton of true crime but the historical aspect of this one pulled me in. I could hardly stop reading! I also really like how it ended. I won't give anything away except to say that it ties to the modern day and shows how the events of the past still impact us all. Now, to go watch the movie and see how it compares!" |

Quincy
Quincy has been “paw-roled" from our Paws in the Pen program in partnership with the New Mexico Corrections Department! He was paired with two inmate trainers and enrolled in a 24/7 8-week training program designed to develop wonderful family dogs with excellent training. Quincy is potty, leash, and crate trained and knows a whole list of cues and behaviors.
Our speckled & spotty Quincy boy is a sweet, lanky, cuddly goofball! This 3yo 57lb hound mix has excelled at many skills, especially saying "hi" and flipping over into your lap to get belly rubs. He is athletic and loves playing ball, enjoys other dogs, and he is as handsome as he is lovable and silly! Apply on our website to meet him in Santa Fe, or meet him at PetSmart on Saturday from noon-3pm! To ensure a successful adoption, we are providing two free training sessions with adopters and an invitation to weekly discounted drop-in classes. www.espanolahumane.org 505-753-8662
