New Mexico’s state Office of Broadband Access and Expansion this week announced $200,000 in grant awards to the Pueblo of Pojoaque and Kit Carson Electric Cooperative Inc. Each received the maximum $100,000 through the state’s Grant Writing, Engineering and Planning Program.
The Communities for Clean Water (CCW) coalition is calling on the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) to immediately release all data, monitoring results, and analytical records from the recent tritium venting operation at LANL.

I have achieved what mad scientists and most of my ancestors could only dream of. Reached a plane of human existence that I never thought possible for mere middle-class mortals, let alone creatively self-employed creatives in creative fields where reporting income is its own creative art form.
Question from Marla: My trusty old HP laptop finally quit on me the other day so I’ve been shopping around for a new laptop.
I noticed almost immediately that MacBooks are more expensive than comparable Windows laptops. Last Week's News and FeaturesResidents launch petition regarding proposed El Rito bridge projectA group of El Rito residents has started a petition to halt the proposed construction of a new bridge on Hwy 554 over El Rito Creek in the village, citing several concerns. First among them is that a new, larger bridge will inevitably result in more and heavier truck traffic down Main Street, compromising the old adobe structures that sit close to the road, increasing noise and air pollution, posing greater risk to pedestrians and harming the character of the historic town.
Also of concern is the loss of trees and wildlife habitat due to construction and the fact that the proposed new bridge will be significantly wider than the current one. The residents’ petition to the New Mexico Department of Transportation asks that the bridge proposal be reconsidered given the impact on the community, and that the comment period, currently set to expire on November 2, be extended. To learn more about the petition and the project, contact KT Vanderbrook at ktvanderbrook@gmail.com or (575) 581-4597, or Lina Alegre at ecarolina.alegre@gmail.com . The NMDOT is currently seeking and collecting comments until Nov. 2 at https://www.dot.nm.gov/event/el-rito-bridge/ Help Save Abiquiu ElementaryEspañola Public Schools Community Survey. This week, Ali recommends Everybody Needs a Rock, by Byrd Baylor: "I know there are a lot of rock hounds in our area! This is a picture book for kids. I also think a whole lot of us adults will like how this book talks about finding the right rock for us. We can think of it as a poem with pictures. A book every Abiquiú area home could have on its coffee table!"

Why We’re Starting This School
As parents and educators, we’ve seen how much children thrive when they’re given time, space, and trust to learn in their own way. With the challenges facing public education today, many families are looking for something different—something more connected, creative, and meaningful. We want to build a school where learning feels natural and joyful, where curiosity is encouraged, and where every child is seen and supported. By blending Montessori’s hands-on independence with Waldorf’s warmth, imagination and rhythm, we hope to create a true community of learning—one that helps children grow into capable, compassionate, and curious human beings. |

Sid
Have you ever seen a more perfect face? Sid’s is the kind you want to boop, frame, and maybe write poetry about. With those soulful eyes, soft whiskers, and the tiniest smirk that says “I know I’m adorable,” he looks like he was hand-painted by the universe just to melt hearts. One look, and you’ll understand why everyone here is utterly, hopelessly smitten.
Sid is a big, soft-hearted gentleman with eyes that could melt the moon. He’s 2 perfect years old, 11lbs, and he’s mastered the art of affection: cozy naps, gentle headbutts, and those slow, soul-deep blinks that say “you’re my person.” He’s neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped!www.espanolahumane.org
